What is this calculator?
Estimate BSA using Mosteller’s equation for pharmacology education. The formula, a worked example, and a reference table are below. Results are for education only, not medical advice.
How it works
Mosteller BSA (m²) = √[height(cm) × weight(kg) ÷ 3600].
Example
170 cm, 70 kg → BSA = √(170×70/3600) = √3.31 ≈ 1.82 m².
Reference Table
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Teaching PK | Introductory models |
| Chemotherapy | Real dosing is protocol-driven |
| BSA vs BMI | Different clinical purpose |
FAQ
Is this for dosing my medication?
Never change prescriptions from a website; follow your clinician.
Other BSA equations?
Du Bois and Haycock variants exist; values differ slightly.
Extreme BMI?
Equations behave differently; specialized dosing rules apply.
Pediatrics?
Weight-based rules are common; institutional guidance prevails.
